Prices are rising for everybody in the country. We should be forward-thinking in ways to combat inflation and other increases in the cost of living. Whether it's housing, utility rates, or how much we're paying for groceries and gas, our reps have failed to stand up for working families and seniors who are feeling the squeeze right now. It's time for leadership that prioritizes the wellbeing of everyday Ohioans over political grandstanding and partisanship.
PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED
During the pandemic housing market, our elected officials neglected to pump the brakes on property reappraisals. The state forced massive valuation increases including a nearly 30% average hike ordered in Geauga County which directly increased the tax burden on homeowners.
Ohio ratepayers are facing a massive spike in electricity costs. Recent capacity auctions cleared at record highs, up 22% from the previous auction.
Legislative changes intended to restructure property tax credits have inadvertently increased the tax burden on landlords, which inevitably trickles down to higher costs for renters who are already struggling to make ends meet.
Goals
Fight to overhaul the state’s rigid reappraisal formulas and advocate for straightforward property tax relief that benefits both homeowners and renters, ensuring that families aren't taxed out of their homes or apartments.
Push for stricter oversight of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to ensure utility companies absorb the costs of inflation and data center demand, rather than billing historic 800% price hikes directly onto Ohio families.
Maintain a pragmatic approach to local energy projects, prioritizing solutions that ensure grid reliability and lower costs for consumers over partisan agendas.
The hardworking residents of Ashtabula and Geauga counties deserve a representative who fights for their financial stability. When utility bills or property values skyrocket, we need a leader who will be present and accountable.
