Public Education
Education is the cornerstone of a well-developed and competitive civilization. It builds society by driving personal growth, economic strength, and civic duty. Whether or not we invest in our children's education and futures should not be a topic of debate. This extends from general public education to trade and vocational schools.
PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED
Ohio's national education ranking has dropped from 10th place in 2010 to 38th place in 2026
Frequent levies burden and exhaust local taxpayers
Our current elected officials are attempting to pass legislation that will further reduce school funding
Goals
Reduce dependence on local levies by advocating for increased education funding from the state of Ohio
Provide stimulus funding to local trade schools and recognize them as an investment in our economy
Reallocate performance-based funding tied to standardized test scores
Ohio is most over-levied state in the country, and that is not an exaggeration.
The reason for this dates back to the allocation of Ohio lottery earnings toward public schools in the 90s. Because of the introducation of this new source of funds, our state legislature reduced our education budget by the same amount the following year. In turn, municipalities were forced to pass levies in order to make up for future deficits. We've since kept up this practice, lowering our state budget each year more levies are passed, creating a "tit-for-tat" game between local tax districts and the state. The result is a declining quality of education for students and increased burden on local taxpayers.
Simply put, we're not getting back what we're giving to the state.
